Test at Harvard

The Police Department will hold a walk-in test at Harvard University on May 11 as part of its campaign to recruit from top colleges.

A Police Department spokesman said that the free test is being held at the Cambridge, Mass, campus, in a room with a 200-person capacity, because the university donated the space. Recruiters are visiting college around the Boston area to recruit candidates, he added.

The announcement was greeted with some skepticism by Patrolmen's Benevolent Association President Patrick J. Lynch. "While he appreciates the syumbolism of seeking recruits from Ivy League schools, it is apparent to him that anyone who seeks to become a Police Officer via Harvard probably doesn't have the common sense to do the job," a spokesman said.
