Democratic nominee for City Council Costa Constantinides was joined by the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch and Uniformed Firefighters Association Trustee Matt Desjardin at Columbus Triangle in Astoria on October 22 to demand better solutions to recent cutbacks made to police and other first responders. Recognizing the numerous layoffs and resource cutbacks, Constantinides is calling for the hiring of more policemen and firefighters, improvements to the current wage scale, ensuring fair contracts and also preventing the closure of city firehouses.
