NYPD Union Head Upset that Off-Duty Cops Can’t Bring Guns to Pope Francis’ Procession

BY KEN MEYER

As Pope Francis continues his visit to America, the media has repeatedly commented on his humble accommodation requests, as well as his lack of security concerns due to his non-use of safety measures like the fully-enclosed popemobile.

His Holiness is scheduled to visit New York City soon, and Fusion has reported that the one of the country’s largest police unions is frustrated that off-duty cops are being told not to bring guns with them for his procession.

Newsweek reporter Polly Mosendz found a memo sent out by the police chief, saying that with the tight arrangements and extensive screenings, any member carrying their firearm will be expelled from the event.
