Police Officer Killed in Staten Island Accident Laid to Rest

Family, friends and police brass said goodbye to Officer John Kelly Friday, four days after he was killed in the line of duty on Staten Island. There was a sea of blue in Huguenot, Staten Island Friday, as the Police Department mourned the loss of one of their own at the funeral for Officer Kelly. Kelly was killed in the line of duty Monday during a car chase on Staten Island. Relatives and loved ones hugged and comforted each other over the loss of a man they say was a good family man, husband, father and friend. "You left behind two sons, and even though they are too young to understand, we'll be sure to let them know just how great you really are and we'll be sure to let them know that daddy died a hero," said Danny Kelly, John Kelly's brother. City officials and top police brass came out to say goodbye to the officer they call a hero. Kelly was 31-years-old and an eight-year veteran of the force. He's the second police officer to die in the line of duty this year. Guido Tritto has been charged with manslaughter, reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident in connection with the accident that killed the officer.
