PBA BLASTS RECRUIT WOE$

The city police union yesterday charged that the NYPD's latest "dismal" recruitment effort was yet another sign that cops' salaries need a major boost.

Only a quarter of the 38,000 who filed an application to take the officer's exam have taken the test, the PBA said. But Commissioner Ray Kelly said the most recent number of test-takers was the largest since 1999.
