Spending millions of dollars to recruit New York City police officers ("Brass Knuckleheads," Nov. 30) is a colossal waste of valuable dollars.

The solution to the recruiting crisis is simple: Make New York City Police Officers' pay equal to those of surrounding police departments who make more, and the NYPD will have tens of thousands of well-qualified young people who would serve this city with pride as one of New York's Finest.

It is only since our salaries have fallen so far behind that there has been a problem recruiting new police officers.
