Cops Get Free Ride on Bridges

By Larry Celona

New York City cops will be able to use nine city bridges and tunnels for free when they're off duty, thanks to a commitment from Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno.

PBA President Pat Lynch said yesterday the Legislature had come up with $2 million to give off-duty cops a free ride on the Whitestone, Throgs Neck, Triborough, Verrazano, Henry Hudson, Cross Bay and Gil Hodges bridges, as well as the Midtown and Battery tunnels.

A spokesman for Bruno (R-Troy) said that the lost revenue would be offset by having police officers using the bridges and tunnels, which remain high-profile terror targets.
