Statement by PBA President Patrick J. Lynch Re: Uniformed Coalition Tentative Settlement

The tentative settlement between the city and the Uniformed Coalition seems to be a reasonable deal for unions whose members are already being compensated at fair market rates and whose ranks are not facing a recruitment and retention crisis. That the settlement differs from contracts already reached with other unions shows that the city realizes that the one-size-fits-all approach to collective bargaining is a thing of the past. The PBA expects that, either at the bargaining table or though the PERB arbitration process, New York City police officers will achieve fair compensation that addresses the crucial recruitment and retention crisis.
