PBA PRESIDENT PAT LYNCH REACTS
TO MAYOR BLOOMBERG’S COMMENT ON CNN
ON JULY 23, 2012

PBA president Pat Lynch reacts to Mayor Bloomberg’s comment on CNN last evening saying: “I don’t understand why the police officers across his country don’t stand up collectively and say, ‘We’re going to go on strike. We're not going to protect you unless you, the public, through your legislature, do what's required to keep us safe,’”

PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said:

“When violence from illegal guns visits our city, New York City police officers are the first to encounter it.  The proliferation of illegal guns being transported from other states is a very serious problem that’s made much worse by the fact that there are 7,000 fewer police officers patrolling our streets today than ten short years ago.  The Mayor and I have stood side by side at the bedside of police officers shot with illegal firearms and we’ve stood with the grieving families of police officers who lost their lives to guns that never should have been here.  We need to stop the proliferation of illegal guns on our streets and we need bring police officer staffing back up to strength if we are going to keep this city safe.”
