PBA PRESIDENT NOTES UNION'S ACTIONS TOWARDS IMPROVING WHAT HE CALLS “GROSSLY INADEQUATE” DISABILITY BENEFITS FOTR TIER 3 POLICE OFFICERS

PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said:

“This union has been working diligently towards getting the necessary legislation and support to guarantee every NYC police officer the appropriate compensation should they become permanently disabled in the line of duty.  Tier 3 broke the social contract between police officers and the public that allowed police officers in good conscience to risk our lives for the greater good knowing that we would be adequately cared if injured.  Tragically, we now have a police officer who is seriously injured and may suffer from the unjust reduction in disability coverage under Tier 3.  We hope that former Governor Paterson will voice the reversal of his opinion on this critical issue to all of the members of the state legislature and to Gov. Cuomo so that when our legislation is presented, they will fully understand the urgent need to return police officers to Tier 2.”
