Two Officers Indicted For Alleged Assault

Two New York Police Department officers have been indicted by a Brooklyn grand jury over an alleged assault on a 16-year-old during an arrest in August, a law enforcement official said.

The two officers were scheduled to surrender themselves to the Brooklyn district attorney’s office on Wednesday before being arraigned in State Supreme Court in Brooklyn before Justice Matthew D’Emic, the official said

Both officers have been placed on modified duty since a videotape of the incident surfaced, allegedly showing them assaulting the teenager.

A spokeswoman for District Attorney Ken Thompson declined to comment on the case and the NYPD referred all questions about the matter to that office.

The video was among those cited during a one-day workshop with 800 of the NYPD’s top executives last month in College Point, Queens.

Patrick Lynch, president of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, said the video captured only the arrest and not the crime.

“We believe once all the facts in this case are presented to a jury the officers will be vindicated,” Mr. Lynch said.
