St. John’s University Department of Public Safety

St. John’s University Department of Public Safety  is looking to hire several active or former law enforcement officers to work as unarmed per diem security officers at our Queens New York Campus. The current wage is $20.00 per hour. Per Diem workers can work up to 28 hours per week if they chose. Candidates must have a NYS security License and a valid Driver’s license at the time of hire.

Per Diem Public Safety Officers are responsible to maintain the safety and security of the  St. John’s University campus by conducting security inspections of buildings, arenas, parking and storage facilities.  Candidates for this position must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as being customer service oriented and willing to take the extra step to assist students in need. Candidates should be physically fit and able to respond to calls for assistance which include crimes in progress, past crimes, vehicle accidents , personnel injuries, medical and aided cases, fires, smoke, burglar and duress alarms. Officers will be trained in first aid, CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator. Public Safety candidates may be required to operate a patrol vehicle in a safe manner in areas of high pedestrian traffic. All Per Diem employees work under the direction of a public safety sergeant or higher level supervisor.
