The 62 Precinct lost one of its most promising young officers May 28, 2000 when David Regan, 28, a two-year veteran, was dead on arrival at Maimonides Medical Center after he was involved in a collision with a newspaper delivery truck as he and his partner were speeding to respond to a report of a man with a gun.

Jacques Lavache, 38, a New York Post delivery truck driver, was also killed in the accident. Officer Regan’s partner, Kenneth Waszak, 34, suffered a broken back in the collision.

An NYPD spokesman said the RMP was flashing lights and sirens as it head east on 75^th St. in Bensonhurst and collided with the truck moving north on 18^th Ave. at about 3:45 a.m.

“This was a tragic accident,” Post publisher Ken Chandler said in a statement. “Our sympathies go to the families and we hope the injured policeman recovers quickly.”
