P.O. David Regan

The 62 Precinct lost one of its most promising young officers May 28, 2000 when David Regan, 28, a two-year veteran, was dead on arrival at Maimonides Medical Center after he was involved in a collision with a newspaper delivery truck as he and his partner were speeding to respond to a report of a man with a gun.

Jacques Lavache, 38, a New York Post delivery truck driver, was also killed in the accident. Officer Regan’s partner, Kenneth Waszak, 34, suffered a broken back in the collision.

An NYPD spokesman said the RMP was flashing lights and sirens as it head east on 75th St. in Bensonhurst and collided with the truck moving north on 18th Ave. at about 3:45 a.m.

“This was a tragic accident,” Post publisher Ken Chandler said in a statement. “Our sympathies go to the families and we hope the injured policeman recovers quickly.”
