New surveillance footage shows the moments a gunman approached a parked NYPD police truck before opening fire at an officer early Wednesday.
Alexander Bonds, 34, walked up to the passenger side of the parked police vehicle on E. 183rd St. and Creston Ave. in the Bronx and fired one gunshot, video captured by a nearby store shows.
Officer Miosotis Familia, assigned to the 46th precinct, was sitting in the passenger seat writing in her memo book before being fatally shot in the head after midnight, police said.
Bonds can be seen on video fleeing from the scene after firing the shot. Scores of police officers and several ambulances then arrive and surround the police truck.
Police later shot and killed Bonds, 34.
Familia, 48, was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where she died at around 3:30 a.m.
NYPD Police Commissioner James O’Neill called the slaying "an unprovoked attack on police officers."
Familia, a beloved mother of three, devoted her life to caring for others, her family said.
“She was like a very tough girl,” sister Adriana Sanchez told the Daily News Wednesday. “She said she wanted to protect the city from all those crazies — and look what happened.”
