The bystander who was accidentally shot following the assassination of an NYPD cop said Thursday that he “can barely sleep” — and is “still in pain.”
In an exclusive interview with The Post, Asuncion Bautista said he was stepping out of his apartment building in The Bronx when he took a stray bullet to gut.
“I didn’t hear anything,” Bautista, 30, said in Spanish from his bed in Lincoln Hospital.
“I just felt something and I touched myself and saw I was hit.”
The restaurant worker, who immigrated from Mexico about 10 years ago, said he underwent emergency surgery to repair the wound.
“I can barely sleep, because of the pain. I am on pain medication but I still feel it,” Bautista said.
Law-enforcement sources have said Bautista was hit during an exchange of gunfire between two cops and killer Alexander Bonds, who squeezed off a single round before getting cut down by a volley that left his body riddled with 17 bullet holes.
The fatal confrontation took place just moments after Bonds cowardly fired a single shot through the window of an NYPD truck parked nearby, hitting unsuspecting Officer Miosotis Familia in the back of her head while she filled out her official memo book around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
It’s still unclear who shot Bautista, the NYPD said Thursday.
