A cousin of slain NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu had his new BMW carjacked by a group of men in Brooklyn over the weekend, police said.
The 24-year-old had just parked his white 2021 BMW M340i on Avenue X in Sheepshead Bay and was walking home when he was approached by four men, according to cops.
One of the men pulled a pistol and took the victim’s wallet and keys, police said. The crooks also took his Beemer.
But the vehicle’s GPS tracker led cops right to it. It was found abandoned at 84-01 133 Ave. in Jamaica, Queens, police sources said.
The thieves, who were also travelling in a Nissan Maxima with temporary NJ plates, were still being sought.
Liu and Officer Rafael Ramos were fatally shot while sitting in their patrol car in Brooklyn in 2014, during a summer of protests over Eric Garner’s death.
Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch released a statement on the carjacking.
“This was yet another brazen crime of the kind that has been happening to families all across the city,” he said. “But this time, it happened to the family of our fallen hero. P.O. Wenjian Liu gave his life protecting all New Yorkers from victimization and fear. To honor his legacy, we can’t let our city keep sliding backward.”
