STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-- Police in two boroughs are investigating alleged assaults of police officers -- each dragged and injured by drivers within hours of each other.
A police officer on Staten Island suffered lacerations and bruises, while an officer in Brooklyn was listed in critical condition, as of Sunday morning.
STATEN ISLAND
Officers in their patrol car were flagged down at about 4 a.m. on Saturday by a victim who was standing outside 3555 Victory Blvd. in Travis, according to a NYPD spokesman.
The victim pointed out a suspect, who police say is a known suspect in a previous armed robbery, said police.
As officers approached the vehicle -- a red, four-door sedan -- the suspect drove off, causing leg and shoulder lacerations to the officer, the spokesman said.
No arrests have been made as of Sunday morning, said police.
Police did not provide a description of the suspect, or additional information about the incident that led the victim to flag police.
BROOKLYN
An officer with the 67th precinct was in critical condition Sunday after he allegedly was dragged for two-and-a-half blocks.
The incident began with a report of shots fired at Tilden Avenue and East 53rd Street, according to statement from NYPD Commissioner James P. O'Neill.
Six plain clothes officers responded to the scene, where a party had been held. They determined the noise was fireworks.
Police Officer Dalsh Veve, 35, was across the street from the party speaking to several occupants sitting inside of a black Honda sedan. Officers then observed Veve being dragged by the sedan west on Tilden Avenue.
Veve is a 9-year veteran of the NYPD and is married with a two-year-old daughter.
A 15-year-old male believed to be in the car checked in to Brookdale Hospital with a gunshot wound and is in serious condition, O'Neill said.
The teenager was shot in the face, according to a Daily News report.
