S775 (Alesi); A3071 (Christensen) - Establishes the crime of unlawful failure to obey a police officer while operating a motor vehicle; provides that a person is guilty of such crime when he or she, when having to be directed to stop the vehicle by either a uniformed police officer or a marked police vehicle by the activation of either the lights or the lights and the siren of such vehicle, such person thereafter fails to stop the vehicle in the amount of time it takes to safely stop the vehicle at the side of the road; makes such crime a class B misdemeanor. A2204 (Morelle) - Provides tuition awards to children of firefighters, police officers, volunteer firefighters, and EMTs with permanent and total disabilities, to be applied to any college or university in the state university system or the city university of New York; provides that the award is for tuition; less other aid and is limited to 4 or 5 academic years. A2152 (Englebright) - Establishes the class E felony of resisting arrest in the first degree when the crime of resisting arrest in the second degree, existing crime of resisting arrest, is committed by using physical force against a police officer or peace officer making or aiding in an authorized arrest. A1070 (Destito) - Provides that the sentence for committing murder in the first degree when the victim is a police officer, peace officer or correction officer shall be either death or life imprisonment without parole. Assembly - 1/-07/09 - referred to codes.
A8595 (Abbate) - Permits the children of firefighters and police officers killed in the line of duty to gain additional credits. Assembly - 1/09/08 - referred to governmental employees.
A2887 (Koon) - Prohibits the purchase or sale of protective body vests except to law enforcement or military personnel; provides for registering of such sales by vendors; establishes unlawful purchase or sale of a body vest as a class A misdemeanor. Assembly - 1/21/09 - referred to codes.
A2502 (Pretlow); S37 (Fuschillo) - Increases the penalties from criminal impersonation in the first degree from a class A misdemeanor to a class E felony. Assembly - 1/16/09 - referred to codes; Senate - 1/07/09 - referred to codes.
A2474 (Pretlow) - Prohibits the sale of any badge, shield, identification card or other insignia of any police department or law enforcement agency or a facsimile of such a badge or shield and imposes a civil penalty not to exceed $250. Assembly - 1/16/09 - referred to economic development.
A1606 (Zebrowski) - Authorizes the issuance of distinctive license plates to retired disabled police officers; such distinctive plates shall only be issued upon proof, satisfactory to the commissioner of motor vehicles, that the applicant is a retired disabled police officer who receives permanent total disability benefits. A3427 (Abbate); S1407 (Savino) - Extends the effectiveness of provisions of the civil service law relating to injunctive relief in improper practice cases until June 30, 2011. Assembly - 1/27/09 - referred to governmental employees; Senate - 1/29/09 - referred to Civil Service and Pensions.
A3425 (Abbate); S1406 (Savino) - Extends for an additional two years the effectiveness of provisions establishing dispute resolution during collective negotiations. Assembly - 1/27/09 - referred to governmental employees; Senate - 1/29/09 - referred to civil service and pensions.
A2245 (Schroeder); S1462 (Robach) - Provides that a person commits the crime of assault in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor, when he or she strikes person whom he/she knows, or reasonably should know, to be a police or peace officer while the officer is engaged in the course of performing his or her official duties. A1624 (Zebrowski); S1534 (Morahan) - Creates the crime of criminal evasion and makes such a crime a class D felony. Assembly - 1/07/09 - referred to codes; Senate - 2/02/09 - referred to codes.
A4598 (Cymbrowitz) - Presumes certain diseases impairing the health of a uniformed member of a paid police department in a city with a population of one million or more to have been incurred in the performance and discharge of duty if a previous physical found no evidence of such disease. A4905 (Markey) - Increases the salary used in the computation of the special accidental death benefit in cases where the date of death was before 2009; applies to surviving spouse and child benefits of certain police and fire personnel. Assembly - 2/06/09 - referred to governmental employees.
A5094 (Abbate) - Affords members of the New York City police force and New York City fire department the option of taking a monetary payment in lieu of terminal leave at the rate applicable on the date of retirement. Assembly - 2/10/09 - referred to governmental employees.
