Cop killer's parole gets put on holdBY John Marzulli October 31, 2009 A convicted cop killer, who was granted parole last year before the family of slain NYPD Officer Stephen Gilroy could be heard, will remain in state prison for at least the next six months. Shu'aib Raheem's bid for freedom took a major hit yesterday when the state Appellate Division ruled that the Division of Parole can hold a hearing to rescind its earlier decision. Raheem, 60, has served more than 33 years in prison for killing Gilroy during a robbery at a Brooklyn sporting goods store in 1973.Raheem is up for consideration for parole again in March 2010. "This decision closes a legal loophole through which a cop killer tried to pass," said Patrolmen's Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch. |
