COP-KILLER FIEND HIT WITH DWIFebruary 9, 2009 By MURRAY WEISS and LARRY CELONA A notorious cop-killer paroled in 1999 could be back in the can after he was arrested yesterday for alleged drunken driving, sources said. Albert Victory, 68, was collared at 5 a.m. yesterday in Coney Island after cops spotted him driving erratically. Sources said his blood-alcohol content was .12 percent. Victory was sentenced to 25 years to life for the 1968 killing of Officer John Varecha, who was shot during a traffic stop in Midtown. A co-defendant, Robert Bornholdt, who actually fired the deadly shots, remains behind bars. Police-union President Pat Lynch, who criticized Victory's 1999 parole, yesterday said the latest arrest was a good example of why cop-killers should be put to death, or at least denied parole. "Had coldblooded cop-killer Albert Victory received either of those sentences, he would not be endangering the lives of innocent New Yorkers by driving drunk on a Sunday morning," Lynch said. |
