October 21, 2009 On Monday, we announced our endorsement of Michael Bloomberg for re-election as Mayor of the City of New York. After careful and deliberate consideration, we concluded that he was the right choice in this race. We are convinced that his re-election would be in the best interest of the membership. As you know, we have not always agreed with Mayor Bloomberg and undoubtedly we will have disagreements in the future. But his willingness to engage in an open dialog, despite our past differences, led to our last contract which was the first negotiated police officers’ contract in nearly two decades. The innovative escalator clauses negotiated in that contract demonstrates his willingness to find unique ways of improving police officers’ compensation. His continued prioritization of public safety and crime fighting has kept the streets safe in the city in which we live and work. I encourage you, your family and your friends to vote for Mike Bloomberg for Mayor on November 3rd. We believe it is in all of our best interests.
