Shootout on Staten Island Underscores Need for Better Training, Equipment and Pay for NYC Police Officers to Counter Threats

PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said:

“This morning's shootout on Staten Island is further proof of the extremely dangerous environment that New York City police officers now face. On any call police officers respond to they could be confronted by perps armed to the teeth with assault weapons and body armor, as was the case today. These are the types of situations that made 2016 the deadliest year for U.S. law enforcement in a half decade.  In this climate, we need the support of our elected officials and the public more than ever.  NYC police officers need to be treated like professionals, paid like professionals, and given the equipment and training we need to counter these increasing threats.”
