As you may be aware, a state Supreme Court judge has issued an order modifying the City’s planned implementation of a Medicare Advantage plan for City retirees. The new implementation plan set forward by the court is as follows:
The new effective date of the Medicare Advantage Plan will be April 1, 2022.
The Opt-Out period will be through March 31, 2022.
Premiums will not be charged for GHI-Senior Care from January 1, 2022 through March 31, 2022 when the initial opt-out period ends.
Retirees who do not opt out by March 31, 2022 will be placed into the Medicare Advantage Plus Plan effective April 1, 2022.
Retirees placed into the Medicare Advantage Plus Plan will have an extended opt-out period which will run through June 30, 2022. During this period, retirees may elect to leave the Medicare Advantage Plus Plan and return to their previous plan.
Retirees will be subject to only one set of deductibles for calendar year 2022.
Retirees should receive a letter containing a list of the corrections and additions made to the previously sent Enrollment Guide on or before January 7, 2022.
The letter will contain information on how a retiree can obtain a corrected Enrollment Guide free of charge, and the specific web addresses where the corrected Enrollment Plan may be seen.
The City will provide periodic updates to the Court regarding how many providers have been contacted about the plan in specific geographic areas.
