Do you know their public safety priorities?As New York City police officers, we took an oath to protect New Yorkers by faithfully discharging our duties. But we don't decide those duties for ourselves — they are ultimately dictated to us by the city's elected leadership, including the members of the New York City Council.
It is imperative for every PBA member to be aware of the public safety priorities being promoted by our local elected officials. Those priorities should inform our approach each time we turn out on patrol, and should furnish us with an answer to community members who want to know why specific issues are or are not being prioritized.
In our current environment, failure to understand and adapt to the elected leadership's chosen priorities will place your career in jeopardy.
