We remember those who have gone before us: On May 3, 2014, active and retired member of the service were joined by members of the PBA’s executive board to pay homage to all the members of the NYPD who have passed at a site in Cypress Hills Cemetery that has become known as the “Police Arlington.” Originally purchased by the Metropolitan Police Burial Association, it was a place where members of the service who died from an influenza epidemic and whose families could not afford a decent burial were interred. The burial association is generally considered to be the start of the organization that is today known as the NYC PBA. After falling into disrepair, a small group of dedicated MOS banded together to restore the site and to conduct this annual memorial. The event grows larger and larger each year.
