PBA and UFA hold massive “Fairness For Heroes” Times Square rally

The New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association and the Uniformed Firefighters’ Association held a massive “Fairness for Heroes” public rally in Times Square today to underscore the need for fair and equitable pay.

PBA President Patrick J. Lynch and UFA President Stephen J. Cassidy and their union members were joined by representatives from a host of other municipal unions, the state AFL/CIO, the Transport Workers Union as well as entertainment and construction trade unions and dozens of elected officials and celebrities in a strong show of support for organized labor.

PBA President Patrick J. Lynch said:

“There is no more effective group of police officers on the face of the earth than New York City police officers. Despite our unparalleled success in fighting crime and improving the quality of life in the city for business and individuals alike, our police officers are still among the lowest paid in the nation and that has to change. We are honored to be here with the Uniformed Firefighters Association and the construction trades with whom we worked shoulder to shoulder in the rescue and recovery effort at the World Trade Center. We thank the people of New York City for their support and for joining us at this rally for the fair treatment of police officers and firefighters.”

UFA President Stephen J. Cassidy said:

“Today we live in a new and more dangerous world with New York remaining as the #1 target. This City’s firefighters are always on the front lines risking their lives for all New Yorkers. Yet despite the dangerous job we do, most New York City firefighters can’t afford to live in the City because we do not earn a living wage.”
