Statement by PBA President on tuition program

PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said:

"The PBA recognizes the benefit of higher education for police officers and has for years been seeking the same educational incentive pay enjoyed by most big city police departments. The wrong-headed tuition reimbursement plan initiated by the NYPD was available only to new hires, and was judged to be a clear violation of our collective bargaining agreement. We encourage the city to follow the leadership of other big cities by offering incentives to New York City police officers to achieve higher levels of education.

Better educated police officers benefit all of us."
