PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said:
“We are deeply disappointed in the parole release of cop-killer Pablo Costello. Police Officer David Guttenberg was cut down by Costello and his partner when the officer walked into a store where a robbery was in progress. Had this criminal been tried today for the same crime he would have likely been given life without the possibility of parole. Had he been tried a few years earlier, he may have gotten the death penalty. And while laws of punishment have changed over the years, our belief remains firm that anyone who kills a police officer has forfeited their right to freedom and should remain in prison for the rest of their lives.”
