PBA President Patrick J. Lynch said:
"With today's ruling, the judge left police officers standing alone as perhaps the only group with no remedy for a violation of their legal rights. If the Legislature did not expect the courts to enforce the laws protecting police personnel records, it would not have passed them in the first place. The NYPD's illegal and arbitrary release of police officers' body-worn camera footage is exactly the type of abuse the Legislature intended to guard against. Police officers protect New Yorkers’ rights every single day — we shouldn't be left without any recourse to protect our own safety and privacy rights. As such, we intend to file an emergency appeal with the Appellate Division in the coming days, so that the safety of police officers and their families will not be placed at greater risk."
