PBA statement on UFT contract settlement

PBA President Patrick J. Lynch said:

“We congratulate the UFT on reaching a deal they believe meets the needs of New York City teachers. Unfortunately, none of the City’s offers to the PBA have met our members’ needs, including closing their pay gap of upwards of 30% in comparison to other law enforcement officers who work side-by-side with our members in New York City. The PBA is not bound by a one-size-fits-all wage pattern that was structured around the needs of other city workers and does not address the enormous wage disparity that New York City police officers face. In the last contract round, the City came to the table and negotiated with us realistically. Since that has not happened in this round, we’ll be making our case before a state arbitration panel.”
